We're lucky to have secured a small parcel of excellent red Burgundy from Domaine Tortochot, including wines both for immediate drinking and to cellar.
A small doorway in the Rue L'Eglise in the heart of the village of Gevrey leads to this traditional domaine, family-owned since the 19th century. Chantal Tortochot is in charge and has a lifetime of knowledge of the terroirs here. She converted the domaine to organic viticulture in 2013 and balances innovation with retaining a pleasingly traditional style. Dark fruited, unmistakably Cote de Nuits wines but with fine, elegant tannic structure.
The Morey St Denis 2015 is for drinking now, layered with dark fruits and supple tannins. The Morey 1er Cru Les Charmes bears more ageing and the 2012 is just nearing its peak, with a complex bouquet beginning to develop.
The Gevrey Les Corvees is from the superb 2015 vintage and is for laying down; but already shows a powerful, earthy structure on the palate.
From the equally superb but tiny 2016 vintage we have managed to get our hands on a sizeable chunk of Gevrey 1er Cru Lavaux St Jacques. Just next door to the famous Clos St Jacques 1er Cru - usually thought of as equal to many Grand Cru sites - Lavaux St Jacques is influenced by the cool nightime breezes which funnel down the Combes de Lavaux cliffs. Full and muscular, this is a Gevrey with great aging potential.
Offered in bond and immediately available.
