Krug Collection 1961 Magnum No. 519: £5600 ex VAT

A historic vintage, aged in Krug's own cellars

Krug Collection is essentially a vintage release which has been held back in Krug’s own cellars for an extended time.  This magnum was disgorged after 7-8 years but kept in Krug’s own cellars until release in 1994, 33 years later.  It was then stored in the below-ground cellars of a fine wine merchant until purchase by us.  The label and capsule are in excellent condition and the magnum is numbered ‘519’.

Sadly we have not had the opportunity to taste the ’61, but have always been struck by a magnum of ’59 tasted some years ago, which was exceptionally fresh, convincing us of this wine’s extraordinary ability to age.

Offered subject to remaining.

Krug Collection 1961 Magnum No. 519

“Tasted from magnum. Not your average glass of Champagne. Mature and distinctive, exhibiting soya, beef bouillion, almond and kirsch aromas followed by concentrated flavors of honey, caramel, hazelnut and mushroom. Very powerful, intense and long, more like an aged wine in character.--Krug vertical. Drink now.” Score: 97 Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (191), June 2000
