Reviewing our drinking white burgundies this week, in what feels like a small heatwave, reminded us of 'Passport to Pimlico'; the 1949 Ealing Comedy in which an ancient charter is discovered, annexing Pimlico to the Duchy of Burgundy and declaring it foreign soil for one long, hot summer, with ensuing political chaos.
A seductive idea for Burgundy lovers like us, but in the absence of SW1 being ceded to the Côte d'Or any time soon, we must make do with the following wines from a run of excellent vintages, drinking beautifully now and immediately available.
Landed just last month, the 2017s have excellent long term potential, but are so approachable now, we imagine they will be drunk long before they have a chance to age. You will also find a smattering of 2016 and 2014 wines, both excellent white wine years.
We introduced some new, small domaines to our list this year, including Guillaume Meix, Jean Pascal and Borgeot. The best artisan growers like these offer wines with enormous concentration and fruit purity, matching the level of more famous domaines at far higher prices.
Alongside these we offer some more established names such as Alan Chavy, Benjamin Leroux and JM Boillot, winemakers at the top of their game delivering stunning results year after year.
All offered in bond and ready for immediate delivery and enjoyment this summer.
