Our latest find from Provence has just been rated ‘outstanding’ in this month’s Decanter magazine by a panel of experts including Joanna Simon and Liz Gabay MW. The highest scoring of over ninety rosés tasted with 95 points, Domaine Maplier’s 2018 ‘Abacus’ Rosé is from a small estate near Lorgues.
Jean Gallo and his daughter Nathalie have 10 hectares planted with Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Vermentino and Ugni Blanc. If you have tasted our L’Oratoire rosé from the Côteaux Varois which we offered earlier this spring, you will know that the limestone soils in the Varois give a leaner, more mineral style of rosé, delightfully fresh and racy. Maplier’s Abacus, from the warmer coastal region, is in a richer, fruitier style, with beautiful tension between the delicate colour and aromas and a real depth of fruit concentration. This makes it a perfect match for richer seafood dishes (locally caught Aldeburgh lobster sprang to mind as soon as we tasted it).
Winning out over some far better known and more costly roses in the tasting, this is a real find and we are pleased to offer it at £168 per case in bond, for July delivery. This works out at £19.50 per bottle including VAT (ex-delivery). However for orders of 2 cases or more we are offering an introductory DISCOUNT OF OVER 10% that equates to a price of just £17.50 per bottle including VAT (ex-delivery).
