Not all champagnes are created equal and even among family-owned, quality-focused producers, we find certain houses will be particularly 'on form' at any one time. Non-vintage Louis Roederer and Pol Roger have been in our good books for some time and we offer them here as the perfect choice for summer parties and events.
We think Roederer has hit a purple patch in recent years and it seems Jancis Robinson agrees, with an excellent report for Louis Roederer Brut Premier Non-vintage:
"...superior! Great harmony and nothing out of place. Incredibly persistent. Bravo! (17 points)"
Roederer are leaders in improving fruit quality in Champagne, a region where traditionally, the quality of base wines was pretty poor and the focus was on the champagne making process. They have quite literally changed the landscape, using 'bleeding-edge' pruning techniques (yes, such a thing exists!) from Italian wunderkind pruning duo Simonit & Sirch, who advise estates as august as Latour, Ausone and Pichon Lalande. With some of
the best quality base wines of any of the famous houses, Roederer's Brut Premier has brilliant depth of fruit.
The house style at Pol Roger has traditionally been more about elegance and aroma, partly due to very careful handling of the fermenting must, to retain freshness and flavour. Their cellars in Epernay are also a degree or two cooler than most, which again helps to retain aroma. Described by The Wine Advocate's Stephan Rheinhardt as "impressive, taut and persistent (92 points)", Pol Roger Brut Non-vintage 'White Foil' is the epitome of summer freshness and a perfect foil to Roederer's broader, more structured style.
With Roederer equivalent to £31.43 per bottle inc VAT and Pol Roger at £35.43, these are some of the best prices on the market and we expect offer stock to sell out quickly, so please place your order as soon as possible.
